Who's who at Marty's Music School?
ALONSO, ANDY – Andy is originally from New York and currently lives in Annville with his family during the week. Andy returns to the big City of New York on weekends to play Weddings, Corporate Parties, R & B Nightclubs and for recording sessions. Andy began his musical education with Ed D'Latinis, former guitarist and reedman for the Tommy Dorsey Big Band. He also studied at Berklee College of Music. Andy began gigging at the young age of 15 and has doneextensive work in recording, theater, clubs, and is involved in all styles of music.
BUCHANAN, KELLY – Kelly Buchanan is a graduate of Berklee College of Music and is a music industry veteran. She toured nationally as an indie-rock singer/songwriter, released 5 records and gained national distribution for her records. The records reached the top 20 on the CMJ Charts (college and AAA Radio stations). Her recordings were featured on MTV, A&E, the CW and other networks. Her songs have been performed by Grammy nominees Sarah Bareilles, Fountains of Wayne, Glen Phillips (Toad the Wet Sprocket), Nada Surf, Vertical Horizon and others. Kelly is a former instructor at The New York City Guitar School and coached the inaugural year of Willie Mae Rock Camp for girls. As a Hershey native, Ms. Buchanan returned to the area and began teaching locally in 2012. She offers studio and in-your-home lessons to students of all ages in Hershey, Hummelstown, Middletown and Palmyra under the Buchanan Studio of Music umbrella. She helps students learn the music they like while guiding them to their goals. She also enriches the music experience through informal group jams, band sessions and performance opportunities. Kelly is fluent in Spanish and English.
CHARLES, JEFFREY - Jeff has been a guitar instructor at Marty's Music Store for over 35 years. He teaches bass, banjo, mandolin, and dulcimer as well. Jeff uses a variety of musical styles including folk, rock, and classical. He highly recommends that his students study note reading and music theory. In addition to having a BA Degree from LVC, Jeff studied with Julio Prol and NYU and with Joseph Mayes at West Chester. He also participated in the Master Classes of Oscar Ghiglia and Migual Abloniz, as well as studying traditional American music at Davis and Elkings College in West Virginia and at Appalachian State University in North Carolina.
EBERSOLE, JIM – Drummer and Percussionist – Jim has been playing drums since the age of six and has been performing professionally for almost forty years. He has worked with internationally acclaimed acts such as War, P-Funk, Taj Mahal, Curtis Mayfield and the Atlanta Rhythm Section. He has returned to his native Central Pa after 20 years in the deep South, bringing with him a wealth of the grooves, styles, and musical flavors of Latin America and the funky rhythms of New Orleans. Jim is also an accomplished recording engineer, producer and a studio musician. He is available for instruction on drum set, rudimental snare, congas, bongos, timbales and additional Latin percussion.
EMERY, GARY - Gary has been associated with Marty's Music Store for over 23 years as an independent contractor, and Gary is now one of our family as a full time in- house band and orchestra repair technician. With a BS from Lebanon Valley College, he has also joined our staff of teachers as well. Gary is currently a member of the National Association of Professional Band Instrument Technicians, and organization dedicated to the preservation and advancement of the band instrument repair trade
EMERY, PAM – French Horn, Trumpet, Trombone and Baritone – Pam holds a Masters Degree from Temple University, a Bachelors Degree in music education from LVC and a permanent teaching certification from the PA Department of Education. She has played professionally with regional orchestras in Reading, Lancaster and the Harrisburg Symphony. Plus numerous chamber ensembles including the Philadelphia Brass Quintet, Opera orchestras and recording sessions.
ERDMAN, TIMOTHY – Tim is a graduate of Temple University, Valley Forge Military College and Lebanon High School, Lebanon, Pa. Born and raised in Lebanon, he learned trumpet from his father, Fred Erdman, a highly esteemed musician and band director. After obtaining his B.S. degree in 1970, Tim was accepted into the cornet section of the United States Marine Band where he served under Presidents Nixon, Ford and Carter. He also played lead trumpet fro groups like the Four Tops and The Temptations. Tim is a self-employed writer and musician and runs his own marketing communications business, Writers Block Inc.
EVANS, JULIA – Violin – Julia has been playing the violin for 33 years and teaching the Suzuki Violin Method for 7 years. She is a registered teacher training in Books 1 – 3 in the Suzuki method. Julia specializes in young beginner violinists as well as children who are studying through the school system.
GARRISON, CATHY – Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone and Drum – Cathy teaches beginning through advanced students on flute, clarinet and saxophone plus beginning drum set and percussion . She has recently retired from public school Band Director career. She taught elementary band at South Side Elementary School and middle school band at Swatara Middle School. Cathy has a B.S. in Music Education from Mansfield and did graduate work at Penn State University and the University of Hartford. She lives with her family in Palmyra, Pa.
GARRISON, SUE - Sue has been teaching piano and organ students at Marty's Music Store for over 38 years. She teaches reading, theory, chord style, improvisation and arranging. She studied at Lebanon Valley College and also with Mr. Frank Loch of Vienna, Virginia (composition and improvisation) as well as many advanced courses with the Yamaha International Corporation. Sue has taught class piano for HACC, Lebanon Campus and has several compositions published through the Lorenz Corporation for Sacred Organ. She currently teaches 60 students in both piano and organ class and also private instruction. Sue also manages our Music School.
HABECKER, JOSLYN - Joslyn began teaching piano as a high school student in 2007. She studied Music Education at Penn View Bible Institute and plans to graduate in December 2015. She began teaching violin lessons while in college. She has performed as a violinist in a collegiate symphonic ensemble for over 4 years and has traveled throughout the country as a piano accompanist for various music groups from PVBI. She also traveled as a violinist in a string trio. During this time, she had the opportunity to assist in student teaching at a string camp in Alaska. She loves teaching and thrives to instill in other her love and passion for music.
McGEE, JAN - Jan teaches voice, piano or a combination of both. She feels it’s important to cater to the needs of her students so she is adaptable and fun. With a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music and a Master of Arts degree in Humanities from Penn State, she works on the type of music you like. In keyboard, she uses notes and chords. In voice, she helps you solve vocal problems and relax. She has 3 recitals each year.
MITCHELL, PHIL - Phil and his wife have lived in Palmyra since 1992. He really enjoys the wide tapestry of music in this area from Bluegrass to Rock. Phil has been playing guitar for 35 years. Folk, Classic Rock, a little bit Country and has spent time studying the classical guitar. Phil is ready to guide beginners through their musical journey to develop a love for the guitar and the knowledge to play anywhere and with anyone.
MOYER, RAY - Ray has had much experience in playing with the Army Band in Washington D. C. and also in Germany. He has a B.S. in Music Education from Susquehanna University with Dean's List and a who's who recognition. Ray taught over 9500 band and guitar students for the Lower Dauphin School District. While at LD, Ray recieved 4 seperate who's who listings (all related to teaching), presented at 3 national and one international education conferences, and taught advanced teaching skills to 1000+ PA teachers. He has also composed music for Continental Press and is a published writer for the Instrumentat, a national music magazine. We welcome Ray as one of our teachers for guitar, baritone, trombone, tuba, sax and clarinet.
MYERS, BETSY - Betsy Myers is now taking beginning to intermediate students in both clarinet and piano at Marty's Music Store. Betsy is a graduate of Lebanon Valley College and has a degree Elementary Education. She is a PA certified public school elementary teacher. She specializes in young children and has over 30 years experience. Betsy is also the team leader in Church praise music at her Church. She has the ability to teach class piano to 5-6 year olds. She will start students as early at 4 years old. Betsy has networked with over 60 area teachers and has a vast ability in piano and clarinet. Betsy is known to bring up and coming new technology to lessons!
RICHARDSON, VAUGHN - Vaughn Richardson was born in New Mexico and has lived in Lebanon County most of his life. He is a graduate of Cedar Crest High School where he was active in the jazz band. He is also an active pit musician, most recently involved in “Seussical, the Musical!” at Lebanon Community Theatre as the lead guitarist. Vaughn studies under Berklee graduate, Travis Grimes. He has also written songs for various occasions and has won first place in the Student Television Network Convention in the teacher’s category in 2015. Every day he aspires to learn something new about music so he can provide that knowledge to his students.
SPRECHER, MARCUS - Marcus works full time in the music store and is the piano sales and business specialist. Marcus is studying music business at HACC. Marcus has an extensive background in classical and broadway and is no stranger to the musical theatre stage, in fact he has had lead roles in several shows consisting of "Oliver," "Beauty and the Beast," "The Sound of Music," "Wonderful Town," "My Fair Lady" and "Anything Goes." He has received numerous awards for voice and has appeared at the National Association of Teachers of Singing. Marcus has studied extensively with Dr. Rebecca Lister, Dr. Christine Purcell & Mrs. Cynthia Condran. Marcus is also a resident pit conductor for The Lebanon Community Theatre and
